A Cactus In The Desert…

My sister and I started collecting cacti from places we traveled together a few years ago. She chose the cactus as our plant of choice. I never really questioned it, but I wouldn’t have ever put those spiky succulents on my personal list of collector’s choice. Alas, here I am now immediately excited to see these untouchables as I marvel at their similarities and differences from region to region.

A cactus makes me think of a desert and a desert makes me think of sand and that just makes me feel itchy all over, wanting to turn up my AC, immediately shower, and down a glass of water. However, I reflected on an image I wanted people to associate with Anchor Well, I kept finding myself seeking that image of a cactus in the desert. Jonathan kept asking me to get over my weird “sister obsession;” this is a professional mental health organization after all. Yet, I couldn’t help but want people to be drawn to us by relating to that image of a blooming cactus in utter desolation.

The barrenness of a desert, how could anything survive?! Yet, the cactus survives by literally creating its own weaponry, blooms these colors of the sunset, and produces sustenance for other creatures that find themselves in that same dangerous, seemingly unlivable terrain.

Life feels desolate at times, as though surviving alone is a miraculous act. At Anchor Well, we might not be able to change your terrain, but we want to support you with tools to help you find your hope, self-awareness to see your own strength and beauty, and health and wholeness that can then bless those you love.

Just like a cactus in the desert, thriving is on your horizon.

Let’s unveil your hope in the desert.
